CULTIVATING...

ETERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Relationships are built in two ways. First we have a relationship with God. Sinful humanity is reconciled to our Holy God through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Secondly, our relationship with God leads us to building relationships with other people. Outwardly Focused

First United Methodist Church is a congregation that believes in mission and outreach. We support local and global initiatives in a number of ways. Our primary source of missional giving is through the United Methodist Connection in what we call “Shared Ministries”. As the name implies these are ministries which we share with other UMC congregations. A portion of the church’s offerings goes to support mission at home and abroad. Through Shared ministries we reach out to students at places like West Texas A & M University. We sponsor Christian camping at Ceta Canyon Camp and Retreat Center (Happy, TX) and Camp Butman (Merkel, TX). Shared ministries allows us to assist students with scholarships to universities and seminaries, minister to senior adults through Kings Manor Retirement system (located in Hereford) and to reach around the world to places like Bolivia, Eastern Europe and the continent of Africa. In addition our congregation has supported mission beyond the United Methodist connection in places like Peru (The Mission Society), The Philippines (Wycliffe Bible Translators) and Uganda (Amanai Baby Cottage). Our members are actively involved in our local food pantry, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, CASA Volunteers, the Deaf Smith County Crisis Center, Hereford Motorcycle Association (including an annual “Blessing of the Bikes” event) and numerous other local causes. We support mission with our time, talents and resources.
